Many eligible Petrolia ISD students will be dismissed for summer on May 18, 2012. This year Petrolia ISD was approved to implement the OFYP or Optional Flexible Year Program school calendar. To read about the requirements for schools to participate in the OFYP calendar, copy/paste the following link to the Texas Education Agency in your browser. Currently, 172 Texas school districts have been approved to participate in OFYP.

http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index2.aspx?id=773...

A Texas school district may modify its instructional calendar to provide a flexible year program to meet student educational needs, including providing intensive instructional services. A school district approved by the commissioner of education to implement an Optional Flexible Year Program (OFYP) may reduce the number of instructional days for certain students. Therefore, qualifying students will be dismissed ten days earlier than usual this school year. Students who do not meet the qualifications for OFYP, will receive approximately 65 hours of intensive small group and individualized instruction in their areas of academic need during the two weeks from May 21-June 1. Daily attendance will be required of these students as attendance laws apply the entire school year.

Students released for the summer on May 18th must meet the following requirements:

1. Passing grades in all subjects every six weeks as outlined by UIL.
2. No conduct infractions resulting in ISS, suspension, expulsion, or DAEP.
3. Passed all TAKS tests in spring of 2011 (last school year).
4. Students with a cumulative grade average of 90 or higher must have at least a 92% attendance rate (no more than 15 absences) for the entire school year. Students with a cumulative grade average of 70-89 must have at least a 95% attendance rate (no more than 9 absences) for the entire school year.
